I have been a veggie since my mid teens (so over 20 years now). It was a gradual thing for me. I never ate seafood as a child - except Fish Fingers. I could only eat meat if it was burnt beyond recognition. The first thing I gave up was chicken - a friend kindly told me that the blood was the flavour and the veins were the stringy bits - we had chicken for dinner that night and I have never eaten it since. Even at high school I was very fussy with food. I'd buy a sausage roll then throw the meat away and just eat the pastry. Same with meat pies. It wasn't that difficult to give up meat for me. I don't feel like I am missing anything but it can be inconvenient when I go out for meals. Usually I can find something to eat and most places are accommodating. Although I can't tell you how many times I have been offered fish when I have enquired about vegetarian meals. Some people apparently think that bacon is a vegetable - because they will give me something with bacon on it or in it and act surprised when I send it back. "Oh its only a garnish" - parsley is a garnish. Bacon is decaying flesh to me. I never try to force my vegginess on anyone so I don't care what the carnivores eat - that is their choice and it doesn't bother me at all but sometimes I feel sick watching Robert eat his steak. Each to their own.

As for favourite meal. hmmm maybe vegetarian lasagne. Definitely pasta. If friends cook something for me I will eat it as long as it is vegetarian. I really appreciate it when they make an effort as I'm always happy to take something along myself. I basically don't cook meat at all as I find it way too revolting to me. I have cooked Robert roast pork a few times - but I had to put on the rubber gloves to handle the meat - really grossed me out. So Rob & I eat out a lot and we also buy take away. Rob throws dead things on the barbie if he feels like eating meat. There is basically nothing that we will both eat so it can be difficult at times. He is very much a steak & chips man.

Anyone considering becoming a veggie should only do so if they feel it is right for them. Its not something you do to please your partner and is quite a commitment.
