Just wondering if anybody has been involved in any sort of demonstration or protest
against animal cruelty/slaughter? I haven't but if something came up I would definitely join in.

Charlee- I know what you think of, andt no I havn't, but then I do feel that I'm protesting every time I dont eat meat. People do "stop &
stare" when you say:"no thanks , I don't eat meat". Mostly They start to make excrs. for themselves and so on- so, yes, I believe it's
a protest in itself.

Wow Bluejay I never thought of my vegetarianism as a protest but you're very right in
saying that it is. I never thought of it in those terms but it gives a certain feeling of achievement. Thanks for shedding a new perspective on
things!

Actually I have. Not against meat as food, but against animal testing and cruelty. We've got some great groups here in central Florida!

I really admire you for doing that Pattie, what was the experience like? Did your protesting make a difference? Thanks for sharing that :)

Good Pattie - we need many more guys like you ,but I can say that I dont agree with people, who for the sake of the demonstration, let loose nimals born
and breed in cages. They haven´t got a chance outside. To me it´s pure cruelty. They should go for the shops only.

Yes, I was quite active in my support of animal rights issues when I was in my 20's when we had a local animal
rights group and attended organised demos in London against foxhunting, vivisection and factory farming. We had a rooftop demonstration of a local animal
testing laboratory and a quite well organised protest at the RMA Sandhurst against foxhunting. Most of the time we tried to attract attention to animal
issues by dressing up and leafletting in order to gain local Press attention. I took part in a mock fashion show against the fur trade and we organised a
public burning of (donated) fur coats in our town centre. Lastly, I was arrested (along with other members of a national anti-vivisection group) in the
House of Commons during the reading of a so-called revision of the animal testing bill. We were just protesting verbally, interrupting the reading of the
bill. We were physically removed from the room, fingerprinted etc. and kept in a cell below the chambers until the Politicans had finished around 3.00 a.m.
As for vegetarianism,I do remember promoting a vegetarian diet in various ways - in particular spending a very hot afternoon outside Live
Aid leafletting on behalf of The Vegetarian Society!
Sorry to go on ..... I had forgotten just how much we did try to do on behalf of the animals. I cannot pretend that we saw actual
results though - the idea was to keep all these issues in the public arena.

I was a card-carrying member of PETA back in the mid 80s, and I attended a couple rallies in NYC. The problem for me was the lack of respect for other
people's choices. I'm not going to destroy someone's property over my beliefs.
And right now I'm still wearing leather, even though I've gone vegetarian again. I have far too many perfectly good pairs of leather shoes to just
throw them out and not nearly enough disposable income to replace them and give them to charity! I would be pretty peeved if someone threw ink on my UGGs!
I went to my first protest (against the Viet Nam War) when I was 5! I've protested a lot of things and stood in support of a lot of groups. I will
continue to do so, but I will always choose non-violent options.

Jag, hope you don't mind me saying, but... I see quite a few parallels of your life/choices to those of k.d. - HCL'er, vegeterian (she also had
trouble with initially dispensing with her leather shoes), protesting with PETA...

I don't mind, ever! I also had a thing for Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music," like k.d.
I feel like I'm forever discovering myself. It's taken 43 years for me to come this far in my evolution. Maybe by the time I'm 90 I will be fully
self-realized. LOL
