Well , there's good news and bad news ! Apparently k.d. has songs already written for a new
album but it seems she's relaxing at the moment and wont be releasing a new album just yet...................
WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD: k.d. lang reports that she and Tony Bennett have just finished a very special tribute album -- to the
late, great jazz trumpeter/singer Louis Armstrong.
"The album is 14 songs of his material, and it'll be out in the fall," says the songstress, who's become a die-hard Bennett fan and friend since the two duetted on his "MTV Unplugged" album in 1992.
She says it was Bennett's idea to do the Armstrong tribute, and the experience turned out to be "incredible. First of all, I've always been a fan of Louis Armstrong's ... But when you study his music and dive into it as an interpreter you realize, my God, that man has influenced all of contemporary music -- Louis is inside everybody."
Lang was on hand to pay tribute to Bennett at the 19th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel the other night, where he was given the prestigious Pied Piper Award. She says their crowd-pleasing duet at the Awards marked the last time they'll likely get to sing together until next summer.
Meanwhile, she says she should be thinking about starting her next solo album. However, she adds candidly, "I could care less about that, really. When I get to make a duet album of Louis Armstrong with Tony Bennett, the last thing I'm thinking about is songwriting." Actually, she admits she has "a bunch of songs already written, but I'm really taking my time." She adds that in these post 9-11 times, "Everything has kind of shifted perspective-wise. Life is pretty precious, so I'm kicking back a little bit."
