	Tags : None ...those little moments when kd adds something to a note or phrase that make me melt into a messy puddle of bliss. For starters - Sexuality - the throaty purr each time she sings the word 'sexuality' - the moment of silence after the first verse and chorus - 'the skin that's held you in, yeah, held you' - that little throwaway 'yeah' - and the 'now' on 'now how bad could it be', delivered in the same way Oh, I love Sexuality.... Maybe - 'Maybe I......am crazy' - that little pause Infinite and Unforeseen - when she hangs onto Innnnn...finite that microsecond longer than she needs to Thread - 'what is wrong with yours is right (slight rasp) with mine' first time, and 'right' on different (higher) note the second time ANY time she does her shift into falsetto (eg Coming Home, 'my illumination') as opposed to smooth transition to head voice - very effective and she rations it so we don't get fed up with it Once in a While - 'once(purr)....in a while' That's just what strikes me at this very moment from what I've been listening to the last couple of days. I've bored the board with this before, but the lang moment which has spent the last 24 years making me thunk in a swoon to the Axminster is... (Ten second pregnant pause...) The aspirated exhalation of the H in the line "The way you hurt me..." from Lock Stock & Teardrops. Unbeatable, incomparable, entrancing, immortal. It could only be kd.

01/12/11 02:41:55	'melting moments': anytime she allows her voice to break -- and it is a conscious choice, make no mistake -- to wit, '... a-and sells them for dust ...' ('my old addiction'). it was nearly a decade after i first discovered herself that i was was finally able to play her music. prior to that time, i had no boombox, no cassette player (yes, folks, we're talking ancient history here). but once i inherited my son's cast-off player and a handful of cassettes, i fell asleep every night for years with her voice in my ears and in my soul. and i found that the next morning, on my daily walk, 'melting moments' would revisit as she sat on my shoulder and whispered into my ear. these tiny fragments were like sweet audio kisses from a most remarkable angel. thank you for this thread, lovewatershed, and for coining this phrase.

01/12/11 15:16:18	Well, I'm not sure about that. At present kd is taking up rather too much of my time and thoughts and I was sort of hoping for a return to comparative sanity at some point. I'm taking her out walking with me every day and she's doing a wonderful job distracting me from the boringness of exercise though.

Just logged on and found this thread and I just have to reply briefly now----more later, hopefully. 2 moments leap into my mind--- 1. in "Surrender"---"whatever you're after, trust me , I'll deliver". 2. in "Consequences of Falling" --- "does your pulse quick-en like mine?" Premier example--in "Live By Request" Don't get me started here!!!!

01/12/11 16:22:44	Oh TAnnie, I'm so glad you sent me back to Consequences of Falling, and you're so right about that phrase, but also all the times she slightly roughens 'Are'.... Not intended as a pun but so languishingly gorgeous. faints clean away I also love the way she usually does her own backup singing on recordings so you get that ravishing tone all around you. Do people know that Phil Collins video of You Can't Hurry Love where he is the two backing singers as well as the lead vocal? Multiple kds. Just imagine. I have almost certainly thought about kd at least once a day for the past twenty years, despite a perfecty normal, busy, happy and fulfilled private, family and professional life, lovewatershed. A return to comparative sanity? No way!

Another melting moment, though this is a melting 3 minutes because it is all so perfect and heartbreakingly beautiful I can't pick out a moment - Skylark (On Recollection disc 3). If it weren't for about 10 other songs I'd say this was kd's masterpiece where performance as opposed to songwriting is concerned. Surely NOBODY has ever done a better version.

01/12/11 17:05:53	Having listened to Surrender on Youtube, I am awed. Not my favourite style but the sheer decibel-level of kd in beltissimo mode at the end doesn't bear thinking about. Something you very rarely hear from her, but awesome what power she has when she really wants it. Eat your heart out Leona Lewis.

Oooo, so many to pick from, but one that springs to my mind straight away is the rising, pleading lines in "Till The Heart Caves In": "Come closer to me on your hands and knees, alone when your will's gone." It always sends a chill up my spine, rather than down it, which is quite a feat. Anyway, it gets me everytime. kd has sung a variation on those particular lyrics sometimes, I've also heard "Come closer to me on your bended knee." I like the 'hands and knees' one better.

"The air that I breath": The first time she sings the lines "making love with you has left me peaceful, warm and tired." And then there's "Moonglow" where she sings live on stage with Tony Bennett. "heavenly songs seem to come from everywhere" That word "everywhere" sends the audience into delirium, Tony forgets to come in at the right moment and I sink onto the Nepal (my stand in for an Axminster)

02/12/11 20:20:22	Oooh, yessss! The Air That I Breathe. And the growls...yesss. And Moonglow.... I had to go back and look at it to see the audience's and Tony's reaction..... delightful. She was just gorgeous then....wish she'd wear her hair like that now.
