I for one think she could do this with the Jane Siberry song "Love is Everything"
What song do you think she could make into her next homerunner?

What song do you think should be kd's next "blockbuster"? |

kd lang's first powerhouse hit was "Crying" and she retired it. Her newest blockbuster hit has been "Hallelujah", but since the pinnacle of the Olympic rendition she is indicating she wants to lay that song to rest. What song do you think kd lang can use for her next (3rd) powerhouse "bring down the house song"?

Ooh! A chance to rummage through my music collection! Thanks, Feisty!
![]() My two cents - "Infinite and Unforseen" - a little grand, a little mellow, a little meditative. I think her voice could carry it to great (if a bit subtle) heights :) "Love is Everything" - my gosh, yes! This is definitely in the running. And it tends to reflect her outlook these days. Didja see her performance of it on the MAX Sessions? ![]() Although I must say that I'm a huge fan of "Simple" and would LOVE(!!!) to watch her sing it live. Other ideas??

Agreed Feisty and t.y.l., Love Is Everything is a powerful song.
The Valley always goes down well too. Jane is such a wonderful song writer and k.d. puts so much effort and emotion into interpreting her tunes. |

Hmm. kd doesn't actually write "blockbusters" and l would have huge difficulties singling out one particular song. I think it's a crime that Crying has been "retired" but l do agree that Hallelujah should be retired temporarily at least.
No, l cannot answer that question. Maybe l will think about it. Good question, Feisty. |

Tomorrow never dies would be my favourite! Although I guess this is not a song kd would do like Crying and Hallelujah. Too bad!

I think Surrender (Tomorrow Never Dies) was an opportunity missed, but definitely a "powerhouse" song.

k.d. singing "Love Is Everything" is stunningly beautiful and it's such a great song too which she interprets superbly.
I'm glad thisyearslove mentioned "Infinite And Unforeseen" because I've always loved this song and I often think "Simple" is like a sister to it....in my mind I always lump those two songs together as a similar genre type. But really trying to think what could be k.d.'s next big signature song, I'm not sure. This might sound a bit strange and I hope not too off-topic, and it might not be shared by anyone else, but I would love to hear k.d. tackle "Unchained Melody" (I don't think she's ever sung it before)... and yes yes, I know it's old hat and been covered so much, but just think of her throwing her voice around those notes, it would be a show-stopper in any universe. OK...I'll crawl back under my rock.

boudica, please don't crawl under a rock!
for years i've held the fantasy that she might do that song. yes, it's been covered and covered and covered again, but to me it's never old hat. and if kd were willing to wrap her magic around it, just as with 'hallelujah' and 'crying', one would feel one hadn't ever really heard it before. there is a member who is my 'unchained melody' cohort. shall we three draft an imploring letter to herself?

Fruitcake that sounds conspiratorial
.....almost like the first scene of Macbeth with the three witches "When will we three meet again, in thunder, lightning or in rain...." It's nice to know I'm not on a completely different planet with my "Unchained Melody" theory though.

thisyearslove wrote:Yes thisyearslove I did see her performance of Love is Everything on the MAX sessions and that is why I am suggesting that song----it lends itself well to a possible signature song for her. Love the lyrics, love the way she interprets them and the song really comes to life after she breathes into it. I'm sticking with my choice but I can appreciate your thoughts on Simple and Infinate and Unforseen. |

Feisty, stick with your choice. :) Thanks though. "Love the lyrics, love the way she interprets them and the song really comes to life after she breathes into it." This is so true. It's almost harrowing for me to watch, though. I keep thinking about what she must have been through to bring such meaning.....but then again, I'm a pop song kid.
*bursts into coven, sniffs, sips from cauldron* Can I be a signatory to your letter, Fruitcake and Boudica? We might have to ammend your letter. The phrasing of that song is soooh luscious. I'd love to see what she could do with it. *steals Feisty briefly* It's almost like breathing. :) |

I had to remind myself of Unchained Melody. I agree wholeheartedly, excellent choice for kd to wrap her vocals around that song. Would suit her voice perfectly. No one has sung it as well as the Righteous Brothers but she could, most certainly.

All "Unchained Melody" shippers are welcome to the coven!
When I first thought about k.d. singing that song, I not only thought of her hitting all those high notes with such power and meaning, but I was also fantasizing about the husky fullness and sensuality she's able to get with the lower range of her voice for the quieter more soulful parts of the song; a little like those similar parts of "Hallelujah". So wendy, you didn't like Robson & Jerome's version of "Unchained Melody" then?

Fruitcake, I knew your heart would 'leap up ' as the poet said, when you saw Boudica's suggestion.
Add my name to the list for Unchained Melody . |

alrighty, ladies!
the list, she groweth! ![]() yesss! uh ... did someone say husky fullness and sensuality? ![]() yes, indeedy, boudica! ![]() as for robson and jerome, oddly, this yank knows about them. i got hooked on a couple of robson's series ('the grafters', 'wire in the blood', the second a tad less silly than the first, but i liked 'em both. sorry.) and did a bit of research. how amazed was i to learn that mr. green and acting pal j. flynn had made something of a name for themselves with my beloved 'u.m.'?! and frankly, i think they did quite a passable job. so ... it seems for me, all roads lead back to that marvelous chestnut. c'mon, kd, whaddya say? |

Robson Green and Jerome Flynn first sung that song in an episode of TV series "Soldier Soldier". (I confess to having the box set for the entire series because those two were so funny together)
They were a couple of your every day squaddie army boys and in the episode the band didn't show up for their officer's wedding, so they ended up singing "Unchained Melody" for the first dance. It was so popular that viewers demanded they release it as a single, which then shot to #1. They released at least one album which got to #1 too, (all stuff like the Drifters etc on there). They were pretty good really, but as wendy says the Righteous Brothers were the best at "U.M.".......so far......
