As for presents, who'd honestly say no to a nice hunka tofu ? Hmm ?
The veggie coconut curry looks delicious, Deb.

his name was adam and he was the first.
there would be others, but he was the first.
by all accounts he was tall and dark and very handsome, in a leonard cohen way. he had a swagger and a presence and a magnetism.
he also had a fine singing voice and a flair for cooking. he approached both with gusto, the former in the church choir, the latter with a dishtowel slung
over his left shoulder.
he was good with firearms and often set up practice targets at the back of his store.
he had four children, and it was with the youngest he felt an especial kinship: his boygirl, he called her.
it was to her he presented a guitar at age five and a motorbike a few years later. it was with her he took aim at bull's-eyes and took on grand
cuisine.
they were a team, a pair, a duo. until they were not. until the day he packed up and moved on, his buddy watching as he left; his buddy sick of body and
now of heart.
somehow she coped. she took his place in the family, for the family, as best she could. her mother came to rely on her for many things and she came to see
that as the way of things.
she grew tall and handsome, dark hair setting off blue eyes of a shade found nowhere else.
she knew that singing was her ticket out and her ticket in. and she embraced it and the world. and soon the world embraced her, for she had a swagger and a
presence and a magnetism. but mostly, she had a voice found nowhere else.
years passed. many years passed. and apart from a chance street encounter which did not blossom further, the buddies lived their lives on their own
terms, in their own places.
and then one day her buddy came to where she was singing. and he stood at the back of the room. and he watched her, with tears streaming down his cheeks.
and then he left.
and more years passed, and as she traveled the world she acquired acclaim and lovers and one tattoo. and always, always something floated gently just
beneath her skin. he floated just beneath her skin. and swam through her veins. and somewhere watched in silence.
and then one day she heard the news. and she stood at the front of the room. and they watched her, and she sang to them with tears streaming down her
cheeks. and then she left.

Vino ? Oh yeah. Good plan, Deb.
The birthday girl apparently enjoys a quaff of fine Aussie glug of an evening, particularly the prestigious Penfolds Grange Hermitage. We might need to club together on this one. Not available in Tesco.
And now Ladies and Gentlemen (we know you're out there) pray silence for Toastmaster Caz !

You'll have to forgive me CT,...... I feel a bit crusty having had a wholemeal before writing this speech. Here is the
uncut version!!
Uhum!! .....gavel !! gavel !! Ladies and Ladies (and some Gentlemen), it gives us all great pleasure on this auspicious (ti bet I forgot that) occasion to toast the one and only, fantabuloso, spiffingly wonderful lesbibun, kd lang, and wish her Happy Birthday. Was that ok CT.......noooooooooo, put yer wallet
away........this toast was not all about that sort of bread.........no payment required.
Just trying to brighten someone's day with a bit of kd. Caz x

Fruitcake, l am particularly touched by this, you have written with the utmost respect to your subject. I only truly felt the words of The Valley after
reading Gajeanne's wonderful account in her profile. Every time l hear that song, l imagine kd's pain. That said, l honestly believe that kd totally
understands why her Father did what he did. It is us that feel that pain for her. I do not doubt for one minute that kd's Father loved her and she him. I
believe she always understood. Nevertheless, she grieves his passing in the same way a daughter would grieve a doting Father. She doesn't blame him and
neither should we. The deepest sadness is, and the blame, if any, should be levelled at the dispicable behaviour of those who kept his death secret, untill
after the funeral. That is what sticks in my craw. Psychologically, the funeral is an essential part of the grieving process.
