Day 1- England to New York
!!!
So wind the clock back to 01 Feb 09….I posted up saying I was thinking of going to see kd in Staten Island on my own
and wondered if anyone else was interested in coming. And wooo hoooo !! Here I was 30 April, having a 'Full Monty' here at Heathrow
getting ready to jet off to New York with my pal Caz!!
Yep, we couldn't help laughing at the special butter we were given!!

We were gonna miss our other sis Flako though, who couldn't come due to President Obama's last minute interference in kd's programme- boo!!
After Caz enjoyed her frisking down in Customs - I reckoned she filled her pockets with keys for a reason! hahahah! we boarded our plane. It was just like my kennedyflairlines poem- unbelievable!!
So minus my deluxe eye mask, purchased at great cost and lost between the shop and the plane- groannnnn…. I settled into my seat after Caz and I fetched all our necessities for the flight, up and down to the overhead locker twenty squillion times!!
At this point, Caz felt it necessary to check on the fitment of her groovy flight socks….nice!!
Goodbye England …next stop America!!
It was an excellent flight- great food - mmmm I really find a hint of pepper really adds to the flavour of food - don't you agree Caz? Why are you going that funny colour Caz?
Honestly though, the meal was delish- with the yummiest chocolate pud ever.
Caz and I got funky listening to Bob Marley and chatted until it was time for some zzzz's - on with the red Virgin sleep socks, complimentary eye mask and kd in my ears. Caz sooo needed to sleep too- sorry sis but you were wrecked!!
All too soon it was over, 7 hrs literally flew by- Caz and I could barely contain our excitement as we flew into a bright and sunny JFK.
We went through the obligatory Customs checks, Caz taking a little bit longer- I reckon you need a new passport photo Cazzy!!
First stop- check out how to get to Staten Island- we buy our bargain $25 Metro cards which give us 7 days travel on buses, Metro etc and off to the Airtrain.
Even with a map- within a couple of stops we realised we were going the wrong way- oops!! Off and on a couple of times and then a lovely chap (who could obviously tell what a couple of numpties we were) offered directions.
Eventually we sussed it out eh Caz!

After my hideously embarrassing activation of the emergency button-
we made a sharp exit- eventually finding ourselves on the platform of a pukka New York subway- ooooh just like in all those films and TV shows- problem was we
were still clueless.

You gotta hand it to the guy who designed the London Underground map- sorry but other than Uptown and Downtown- we
didn't have a Scooby. Yet again we were helped, without asking, by a lovely young man. We were beginning to get a
vibe about New Yorkers- how helpful were they!!!
Eventually we emerged into the sunshine and exited the subway from the most
amazing little Bowling Green exit - right into Battery Park.

NEW YORK at last - we made it!! I can't tell you how chuffed
were were….. it was so exhilarating and amazing and out came the cameras. We were tired but after a few
snaps agreed we had to head for the Ferry.
How cool was that little trip on the Ferry, fantastic terminal , busy with everyone going about their daily routine.... with two of the most excited passengers you could imagine.
Then we saw her!! What a sight …..

We must have taken so many shots
and when I saw Ellis Island- it just made me think about those millions of immigrants seeing that inspiring and
symbolic lady for the first time.
In no time we found ourselves at the Harbor House B&B - and were
met by the lovely Molly.
She said our friend was waiting upstairs and after settling our bill first, Caz and I were eager to greet her. We tentatively knocked on her door
and…….

Big huggies all round!! How cool was Manon!!! We chatted excitedly in our wee room - we had bunk beds….similiar to this- think this was Manon's Room

Caz on the bottom- me on the top one. I unpacked my 21 kgs and Caz her vacuum packed 9kgs !!

After a lush shower it was off for fooooood!! A local Italian place made me an enormous portion of lasagna which was like a portion for 2/3. I had a good go at it but I still couldn't finish it- phew! The waitress couldn't understand why I didn't want to take the rest back to the room!
And so to bed, exhausted but excited about the prospect of an amazing day exploring Manhattan with my buddies...
First impressions of New York- friendly, exciting, iconic images
everywhere….yep, it's a wonderful town alright!

Yes Caz Queens is very funny!
Yes Caz you are very sexy!
an amazing piece of advertising on the side of a building- not quite a Banksy eh Fruity!!

Caz on the Avenue of the Strongest!!!! Cor! Just got my head in!!! It was
so funny, stood like lemons trying to find the Flat Iron Building until we turned around and realised we had just literally walked alongside it. hahaha
Numpties!!! It was a bit drizzly and grey but hey ho!!! What a truly cool piece of architecture!
Caz brace yerself...
ooooh I think she means it.....
the eyes give it away Manon! hahahah!
Caz, I am jealous of your nice jacket!! What kind is it? Perhaps I can find
myself one like that.
