The anticipated k.d. lang concert at Staten Island's St. George Theatre has been postponed by a day, allowing the celebrated chanteuse to accept President Barack Obama's invitation to sing at the White House. Tickets sold for what would have been a May 3 concert will now be honored on May 4, a Monday, at 7:30 p.m.
The Canadian-born k.d. lang reportedly told the managers of Hyatt Street's restored theater that she didn't want to say no to the U.S. president. "I was extremely disappointed when she first notified me," said Doreen Cugno, vice president of programming at the St. George Theatre, who fretted over inconveniencing ticketholders. "But when they told me the reason she had to change the date-- we didn't mind playing second fiddle to the president of the United States." Ticketmaster and the St. George box office were slated to complete by today a three-day process of notifying all customers. Refunds will be given to those who can't make the rain date. A sell-out is expected, but tickets are still available. The pop and country vocalist and song writer k.d. lang holds multiple Grammy awards-- one of them for her 2003 "A Wonderful World" collaboration with Tony Bennett, who packed the St. George Theatre twice in recent years. Ms. Lang has called her most recent album, "Watershed," a culmination of everything she has done -- from jazz to country, with hints of Brazilian influence and the sound of her 1992 album, "Ingenue." The artist is also known for her LGBT advocacy and activism for human rights, vegetarianism, and HIV/AIDS care and research. This is pure speculation on my part, but I am wondering if Joe Biden maybe had a hand in making suggestions for the evening.

In as much as it's a major inconvenience for so many people, especially our friends here who are coming to NY from so far away, it's a damn good reason
to postpone the show. And yet another reason to be so proud of our fellow Canadian, miss k.d. lang. It should add an element of excitement as well to see her
the night following her audience with the President! You go girl!

Yes, LariatAngel, it was a major inconvience for us over here. On the other hand it has added a bit of excitement to the whole thing. Maybe she will be in a
really good mood for the last concert of her Watershed tour.

Chantal....................aw, how could any of us begrudge kd anything. This is indeed an honour, and long over due for her. Well deserved I say.
Congratulations to kd. Her concert on the Monday will now seem like a big after party to celebrate the occasion. By the way there is a kd sings at the White House thread on the Talk and Twang board. The evening, entitled A Celebration of Women in the Arts, will highlight the achievements and contributions of women from a wide range of artistic genres. It will be hosted by Gala Chair Christine Schwarzman, along with Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser. President Barack Obama and Mrs. Obama are the Honorary Patrons. The black-tie evening begins with a reception at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the Gala performance at 8:30 p.m. The evening concludes with a cocktails and dancing party. Alas Shelley, I think Washington is out of my reach having just had to adjust my flight home (no wonder Richard Branston is a millionaire!). However, I know
St.Patrick's Day has just gone and with an Irish connection, here is a free show for everyone of Barack Obama doing Riverdance. Even Ellen De Generes gets
in on the act. I must say I do have a very healthy respect for these dancers............they are amazing, I could watch them endlessly. They are to dancing,
