all4one, the early clip offers us a young woman of directness and bearing and poise; in a word, self-confidence (or is that two words?
). in any case, i do see the lang connection you point out.
and gill, i really hope the rumour is the work of sad cynics. the world needs truth, not the churning of money-making machines. |

I agree with that fruitcake, the world does need truth and not money-making machines. The world has loads of those machines and look where it has gotten the
world.
The rumour probably is from sad cynics. There are always those spoiling someone's moment. I wish Susan all the success in the world.

Oh - what I wanted to say was 'yes' to each of the three words chosen by fruitcake: directness, bearing, and poise. She had that same 'I can sing and I know it' air. On the Idol show I'm sure she was encouraged to clown about to throw the audience off, but the judges seemed prepared, Amanda's jaw-dropping
notwithstanding.

hahaha!
yes: circa 1987, plastic figurine-decorated skirt made from curtains, chopped-off boots, buddy holly specs, in full whirling dervish mode. and, oh, yes -- she can sing too!

Susan's win last night dominated the news headlines today in Oz, followed closely by the AC/DC Aussie sell out tour and more outbreaks of swine flu.
There is no doubt Susan has won the hearts of the world. Although the song "Memory" has been done to death by every great singer who ever walked the earth, she did a great job of singing it. Good luck to you, Susan, keep on singing. |

Thanks for the link, Tenor. She wasn't as good as she was the first time - but I enjoyed seeing her again. |

I did not like her makeover very much as I've mentioned previously, but rather I like her with her thick eye brows but a well trimmed version of
it, like the one she had when she sings 'Memory' above. It suits her. Cute!
Susan has this very warm feel about her, she makes you feel like you
have known her for a long time, probably a long time friend or family... Very nice. very motherly... for me ,that is.
Hope you guys enjoy the video too! ![]() |

well, she certainly seems to be taking the attention in stride. there's some shyness there but not too much!
and that s.b. doll: clearly she's not getting a percentage of it -- yet! thanks, tenor. |

Millions from Kenya to Korea will be rooting for Boyle to win on Saturday night, not because they admire her small and very specific talent but because they
live in hope that her dream could somehow be theirs. Boyle is the first heroine of the Yes We Can universe.

this article rather damns with faint praise, does it not? a bit high-handed and patronising, it seems to me. but i do like the idea that folks around the globe
may be inspired by her achievement and may consider developing talents of their own. that's always a good thing.
thanks, soozie. |

why does this writer twice refer to boyle as a spinster?
in view of the fact that the article's focus is on the less than kind treatment of her by her new-found public and her reaction to the ensuing pressure, it is a bit ironic, it seems to me. |
