	Tags : None We were discussing a rather puzzling phrase from one of kd's songs in the Hilarious Videos topic and I suggested it could make an interesting topic in a more appropriate place. All4one offered a very interesting possible explanation for: 'unleash the hounds of chastity', suggesting it referred to Diana or Artemis, the virgin huntress. So, would you like to have a go at explaining some of kd's other puzzling lines? 26/08/10 18:01:47	I think she likes to go to the dictionary for ideas or tangents from which to begin a song's lyrics. She often uses a quote too aka Invincible Summer. She claims to never read yet she often references quotes and books like Waiting for Godot--perhaps required reading when she went to Red Deer College who knows?

26/08/10 22:10:59	OK---my favorite quirky and confusing example of k.d. lyricism---which, by the way, is incredible once you get it figured out. Or, at least, THINK you've got it figured out. "and all that once confined us like minutiae at its finest now is gone" from "Coming Home" on "Watershed". I think it means that all the little, minute, unimportant details that used to sway us so violently have been relegated to their proper inconsequential place in our lives and no longer hold any power over us. Ideas????

03/09/10 14:16:17	from a former (and much-missed) member of this community: the tears of love's recall like blood to chocolate fall (and) love the common salt of thirst runs like water and cuts through the lives of blessed and cursed the next time you have to cry, take a piece of chocolate and let the tears fall on it. when they touch the chocolate, the colour of the chocolate turns into something that looks a bit like blood. it's a kind of chemical process. there's something in the tears which does something to the chemistry of the chocolate. perhaps it's the salt.

The song, "Jealous dog"...I had a friend who when he finished his dinner he'd lick his plate. (sorry if that's not the correct lyrics). The word had has me wondering. kd's Buddhist teacher died recently, last year. Did she know he was i'll, perhap's terminally I'll? What do you guy's think? It's just got me wondering, that's all. I often think about it. I dont know why.

06/09/10 22:28:52	so I am trying to make myself cry so I can tear on the chocolate, but instead I am eating the chocolate too quickly and this is making me happy now. next time though I got a crying jag going, out comes the chocolate. i think one of kd's teachers did die, but I don't know if the song refers to him specifically. She's a good poet. the letters in her name are an homage to t.s. eliot.

07/09/10 16:41:03	Newbie perspective again--- I experienced I.S. not knowing ANY background--so I judged it from the music and lyrics only. It approaches love from an open-air, unapologetic, "I've experienced all the ups-and-downs and these feelings are OK" kind of way. No remorse, no self-assuredness, no embarrassment, no pretending to understand--just accepting the laughter and the tears as a natural part of the human emotion of love. The way k.d. vocalizes it makes the listener relive their own same experiences. It's beautiful--and I love it.
