I would LOVE to hear k.d. cover "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"! She'd blow it out of the water!

I'm a huge fan of her Cole Porter covers. I love their delirious romance and the way k.d. sings with such authority, yet subtlety.

But I'd LOVE it if she covered "Unchained Melody"! Then I'd just die!

fruitcake and I had a "chat" recently. We both decided that "I Think of You" wouldn't work...BUT...My other thought was that kd did such a superior job with "The Air That I Breathe" by the Hollies...why not tackle "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." For this age of craziness with Earthquakes and other disasters, it would be a timely song. I think she'd knock it out of the park! (that's in American Baseball terms for those of you scratching your heads right now.)

Yeah fruitcake I remember k.d. saying that about the "Sound of Music". :) Hmm, now I'm getting some really weird visions of k.d. as a nun......scary! :lol

Hey there squidtoaster! Mary Poppins was one of those films that made me think violently ;) I just wish she had hit Dick Van Dyke over the head with her umbrella to stop him talking in that awful attempt at a cockney accent! :D

Frootolicious......Yes April and I did perform that song on occasion...when I felt I could possibly hit the high note. AND...I did. (phew!) kd would need to lower the key a tad bit, but I think she could nail it beautifully.

Howdy Boudica! First movie I ever saw in the theater was "Mary Poppins." I was 5 years old at the time but was just as smitten as kd was.

"Although you can say it backwards, which is 'dociousaliexpeisticfragicalirupus'....but that's going a bit too far. Don't you think?"

do you recall kd saying that when they were kids they were driven 60 gazillion miles to see 'the sound of music' and that she came away with a really huge crush on julie andrews? as she told the story, she smiled and trilled 'how do you solve a problem like maria?'

That is sooo cute! I could imagine her as a Julie Andrews (or perhaps Mary Martin... ;) ?) impersonator singing that. That character radiates positive energy, a bit like.....la senora k.d.!

squidtoaster, I haven't heard of that song, or of Renaissance. Will look that up.

I've always harbored a particular fantasy (number 873, in fact) of her doing a duet with Bruce Springsteen. Any song, doesn't matter. Perhaps one of his, perhaps one of Roy's. Powerful, yes??

She needs to do "I Think of You" by Renaissance. Annie Haslam Did a superb job...but so could kd. That's my two cents. I don't know if it would bring the house down like the others mentioned, but I'd love to hear it.

I'm really enjoying this.

I gave up long ago on the hope that kd would do {i}O Holy Night{/i}.
Then there was I'm Hooked On a Feeling . That would have worked 'then', but not now.

I love Curious Soul Astray ( just looking at the list Abstorch posted ) but it wouldn't draw the the 'Oh Sweet Jesus' , as fruitcake put it . Neither would

But Till The Heart Caves In[i], yes.

Edith Piaff, who wrote the lyric of La Vie En Rose for Charles Aznavour's music undoubtedly sang THE definitive version in French but her English version slightly lacked the same punch. Either way, I think it is possibly the most beautiful love song ever written and perhaps it will never sound quite as good in English.
I had hoped to hear kd sing it, trembling with emotion and passion.
I have to say I was dismayed when kd said in an interview that she was only familiar with Grace Jones' version!!
In another age, that would be enough to get one burned at the stake!

PS Sorry, I have been informed that it was Louis Gugliemi, who called himself “Louiguy”, who wrote the music and he also wrote Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White. Thank you Fruitcake. Clearly a documentary I saw on TV about Piaff got that wrong.

as you'll recall, she performed it at the opening ceremony of the gay games in sydney in 2002 on her b'day.
brought the house down, she did.
(well, the stadium!)

yes, that would be a dream.
it never fails to move me.

back to the doctor's suggestion for a mo', i've found an english translation of 'le vie en rose' (as opposed to a rewrite, as the author takes pains to note).

if kd were to consider performing this song in english, she'd have to modify it, of course.

I've always loved "You'll Never Walk Alone", it was played at my Grandad's funeral, although sadly it wasn't k.d., but it's so uplifting and really hits the mark.

Ah ha abstorch! I'm so glad you have "Season Of Hollow Soul" on your list too. I have always loved this song, and a weird little reason for that is because I think it sounds slightly Abba-ish, and I just love it. "Curious Soul Astray" is also another gem which I think often gets overlooked.

As usual I have limped into this topic late.

On the Recollection topic I listed the songs I had added to the home burned ones from Nonesuch's digital emailed download,( it was curious in a way that they sent that free) in the absence of the Special Deluxe package I have not received. I deleted a few songs from Recollection and added some special favourites to three cds getting an average of 20 songs on each as my personal prime recollection.

These were the songs I listed and I think they would make an excellent Second Recollection.

I do agree that Unchained Melody would sound fabulous sung by kd just as I had always hoped and put here in the past, that kd would eventually sing a heartrending, definitive English language version of La Vie En Rose. I'm afraid the quiet, sentimental little ballad she sang with Tony Bennett is not it, pleasant though it is. I...

kd lang's first powerhouse hit was "Crying" and she retired it. Her newest blockbuster hit has been "Hallelujah", but since the pinnacle of the Olympic rendition she is indicating she wants to lay that song to rest. What song do you think kd lang can use for her next (3rd) powerhouse "bring down the house song"?

I for one think she could do this with the Jane Siberry song "Love is Everything"
