As I didn't find a proper thread to post this, I've opened a new topic - hope it'll be okay ... if not I'll delete or relocate it.

Yesterday I found something interesting on the Net.

I must start by saying the following: when it comes to buying k.d. CDs and DVDs I usually order them over amazon in the UK – they have a larger choice and it's almost always cheapier than the German amazon. Yesterday I found this at amazon.co.uk: Sing It Loud by K. D. Lang (Audio CD - 2012)

It's also available at the Canadian amazon but not at the German or USA store. As the label is WEA Int'l I don't think...

In a recent and thankfully rare domestic ritual which takes place annually on Hogmanay, there was an outbreak of extreme tidying up. In the well-ordered aftermath of chaos, it became clear the Tofu household has two (2) copies of Live By Request. That’s one (1) more than is actually required. This is probably a long shot, and an unlikely question to ask of a bunch of enthusiastic lang thangs, but is there anyone out there who doesn’t yet own a copy and would like to ? There is a minor potential snag :– the copy going spare is NTSC format and will trundle round making unattractive concrete-mixer noises in a PAL dvd player. It requires a multi-region player or a dedicated region 1 machine to make sense of it. There is another potential snag :– I’ll throw in a set of ancient langzines. kd songs that really don't do it

Perhaps a short and sparse thread, but in my alphabetical iPod listening I have come across two kd songs that actually make me go urrggghhh. First one was Tickled Pink, which I really didn't like, either lyrics or music, and the other was It's Happening With You. Hated it. Music - violent key changes and little overall coherence, lyrics - forgettable, but the worst thing is kd sounding like any other girl singer - and i say 'girl' advisedly. She seems to have tried to iron out every bit of character and individuality from her lovely voice and it's so multi-tracked and arranged that you wouldn't even know it's her. It's not because it's all in her soprano register, though that's unusual for her; it's just yeuchhh. Most of her many styles I can at least appreciate, even if I don't hugely like the odd one (eg extreme western swing I find a bit hard to cope with), but this was one experiment that definitely Does Not Work for me at any rate.

I realized that by the time that I originally posted this, the auction for this guitar was almost over. The guitar has now been relisted at an even lower price.

In 2001, K.D. Lang performed at a private event WE TV (Women's Entertainment) hosted for a small gathering of TV executives. As an SVP of marketing for Comcast at the time and an avid music fan, I was invited, and watched as KD signed this gorgeous bright yellow guitar for me.

Since I already had another signed guitar from KD, I decided to sell this guitar on eBay. Here is a link to that auction:

A Review of all Official Singles Videos

As I suggested elsewhere and given that Singles Videos have to be paid for by the artist, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at each one in turn and see what the different views about them are.

Would they have helped or hindered a song because sales is what they are about?

So I will try to find a YouTube of each and give each one enough time for people to ponder and reply. I'm sure if I miss one or get it in the wrong order, someone will step in and correct that. Please do.

Melting moments

...those little moments when kd adds something to a note or phrase that make me melt into a messy puddle of bliss. For starters -

Sexuality - the throaty purr each time she sings the word 'sexuality'
                - the moment of silence after the first verse and chorus
                - 'the skin that's held you in, yeah, held you' - that little throwaway 'yeah'
                - and the 'now' on 'now how bad could it be', delivered in the same way

Oh, I love Sexuality....

Maybe - 'Maybe I......am crazy' - that little pause

Infinite and Unforeseen - when she hangs onto Innnnn...finite that microsecond longer than she needs to

Thread - 'what is wrong with yours is right (slight rasp) with...

The voice

I posted this yesterday but was overcome with shyness, but thanks to a PM from a very kind been-here-much-longer-than-me member (thank you Ms-you-know-who-you-are!) I am venturing to do it again.

I know we are all here primarily because of kd's voice, but as someone who has been a member of a good amateur choir, trained by excellent professional musicians and specialists in singing, for 20 years and more, I am continually impressed by kd's technical excellence. I am no star myselfwhen it comes to singing, but I do know from long experience and training what a good singer sounds like and what also what a not-very-good one who has benefited from commercial hype is. It is probably a blessing for all of us that kd grew up where she did and made her own way in the musical world, because if she'd been a city girl, she'd have been snapped up by the classical music establishment and we would now know her as Kathryn Lang, a very good mezzo-soprano specialising in...

The song itself is fabulous () but I was expecting better from glee however nice for it to get an airing on a show that reaches the masses.�

Hi all,

Is it me or has everyone gone AWOL? Were is Feisty, Jumping Mouse, Fruitcake, Fano2 and Mint Jelly etc. etc. I have missed you all. What happened to the chat? Now that people have been to the Sing it Loud tour, has life gone back to normal. I hope not. My life will never be 'normal' again, after discovering kd and especially after having been to a few concerts.

Do you all know that kd & the SBB are going to work on another album? So I hope everyone keeps their ears to the ground and keeps us all informed when things start to happen on that front.

The frenzy of the concerts is behind us and we are left with glowing and unforgettable memories. But I wonder just how many miles we logged in our attempts to satiate ourselves? I wonder how many times kfs members circled the globe when our total miles are added together? Figure your miles from your home base to the concert(s) and back and let's measure the extent of our k.d.elirium!!

kd movies and tv performances

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the 1998 Live in Sydney DVD? It appears it is no longer available and I would really like to own a copy. I am trying to get a copy of anything and everything that kd was in or her music has been used in and would like any input onto what that may be. I have Salmonberries, Eye of the Beholder and Black Dahlia. I have Live in London and Live By Request. I can get Soldier's Girl and The Last Don but don't seem to be able to get Getting Married in Buffalo Jump so if anyone can help me out with these I would be most grateful and if there are any others, I would really like to know the titles.

You would not think that you could be assaulted when attending a kd concert but my partner and I were.
Firstly, by the incredibly overpowering bad perfume worn by the hysterical young thing immediately to my left which made my partner ill.
Secondly, by the drunken woooooohooooos yelled by the same hysterical young thing which damaged my left ear drum.
I assaulted her back by suggesting that she should shut up - now! She did, just for a minute though.

Discomfort aside, it was a great concert and we finally got to see the SBB play. What a great band of musicians. kd looked happy and healthy and the rapport she shares with the guys is obvious.

kd in Melbourne

What can I say except the energy level in Melbourne just went through the roof! kd received rapturous appreciation from the crowd song after song. Love was in the air. It was plain that kd loves Melbourne and Melbourne loves her unreservedly. The set list was the same for most part but I know, unique to the Melbourne show, she gave not one, not two but three encores. The crowds just refuse to budge and in addition to the other encore songs, she added I dream of Spring from Watershed, Helpless from Hymns and Hungry Bird. She told the crowd that she can't wait to live in Melbourne! Can you imagine how the crowd reacted to that ! People were coming right up to the stage, singing, dancing, cheering, clapping. It was a real party out there tonight. kd even held the mic to the crowd to sing the chorus of Constant Craving. I went for 3 of kd's concert, in Dallas, Singapore now in Melbourne. Tonight was magical. Sydney, here I come on the 16th!

I flew into Melbourne this morning as I will be attending kd's concert tomorrow night. As I was doing a walkabout on the streets of Melbourne, I see many kd lang and the Siss Boom Bang banners flying all along Bourke St Mall and near the Flinders Station. This just shows how mutual the love is between kd and Melbourne.
